Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that the government will not accept any integration decision with Ukraine within NATO until the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia are restored. Szijjártó emphasized that the Hungarian minority’s rights have been systematically restricted in Ukraine since 2015, with the latest example being the impossibility for minority schools to operate this year. As a result, 99 Hungarian primary and middle schools were forced to close, and universities were deprived of the right to choose the language of education, affecting two universities providing education in Hungarian. Szijjártó also drew attention to the fact that there are Hungarian victims in the conflict, with many Hungarians from the Transcarpathia Hungarian national community being conscripted, some in quite cruel ways.
