Karagöz ile Hacivat is an art form that originated in Turkey during the Ottoman Empire. The characters of Karagöz and Hacivat are two comedic figures that represent the common people of Turkey. Karagöz is a wise-cracking, quick-witted character who often gets himself into trouble, while Hacivat is his more intellectual and serious counterpart. Together, they engage in humorous and often satirical conversations that entertain and delight audiences.
The art of Karagöz ile Hacivat is performed using shadow puppets that are manipulated by a puppeteer behind a screen. The puppets are made of translucent materials such as leather or parchment, and are backlit by a bright light source to create the shadows that the audience sees. The puppeteer uses a variety of techniques to bring the characters to life, such as moving the puppets in a fluid and expressive manner, and using different voices and accents to differentiate between the characters.
